Why Barack Obama is more popular in Canada than Stephen Harper.

There is a pattern to U.S. presidential visits familiar to many Canadians. First, there is eager anticipation after an electionwill Canada be blessed with the new president's first foreign visit? That tradition was upset by George W. Bush in 2001, who went to Mexico first. (He's making up for it by giving an early post-presidential speech in a welcoming petro-emirate: Calgary.) Then, there is the search for a personal connection to Canada. Bush disappointed here againbut President Obama's brother-in-law is from Burlington, Ontario! Finally, there is the attempt by Canadian institutions to steal some of the presidential limelight. Among the most popular, but perhaps the most provincial, was a CBC Radio contest inviting Canadians to stuff Obama's iPod with Canadian songs. (Congratulations, Joni Mitchell and Malajube; better luck next time, Steppenwolf and Cline Dion.)

Michelle Obama takes her first solo trip in the neighborhood.

"I was raised to believe that when you get, you give back," Michelle Obama told a group of 13 high school students Tuesday afternoon. She was visiting Mary's Center, a community health organization in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The kids wanted to know why she'd made the milelong trip north. "We were taught you have to get to know the community you're in, and you have to be a part of that community. Barack is real busy right now, so I figured I've got the time on my hands and while the kids are in school, I figured I would come out and hear about programs and meet students."

Blackwater Mercs Likely to Stay in Iraq, Despite Govt Ban

Iraq’s government says it won’t give Blackwater a license to operate in the country. So does that mean the firm’s cadre of tattooed gunslingers will be gone from Iraq, forever? Pemex Oil Output Declines at Fastest Rate Since World War II

Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), Mexico"s state oil company, will probably report its fastest drop in production since 1942, eroding revenue as plunging crude prices limit the amount of cash available to drill for new reserves.

Pemex last year likely extracted 2.8 million barrels a day, down about 9 percent from the 3.08 million a day pumped in 2007, representing a total of $20 billion in lost sales, according to data compiled by the government and Bloomberg. Costs are rising at Cantarell, Pemex"s largest field, after declining pressure reduced output in the past five years.

Pemex"s Sbiggest problems have yet to come, said Alejandro Schtulmann, head of research at Empra, a political- risk consulting firm in Mexico City, in an interview. SThe fall in oil prices and lower production is going to make expensive exploration projects less attractive now.

Mexico relies on Pemex for 40 percent of its budget. Sliding Pemex output risks cutting supply to the U.S., which gets more oil from Mexico than all countries except Canada and Saudi Arabia.

Reinventing the tech incubator

Like hip hop and Dockers, tech incubators were faddish in the late 1990s. These companies offered promising dot-coms work space, back office services like human resources and accounting, and a bit of funding. Most of them imploded along with the boom. Now a handful of incubators are resurfacing, and among the most promising is Betaworks.Bookmark [...]

A rare peek at Homeland Securitys files on travelers

The oversize white envelope bore the blue logo of the Department of Homeland Security. Inside, I found 20 photocopies of the government’s records on my international travels. Every overseas trip I’ve taken since 2001 was noted.I had requested the files after I had heard that the government tracks “passenger activity.” Starting in the mid-1990s, many [...]No related posts.

GM Files: Horrifying New Disease Contains Identical Material to GM Food

Just in case you thought it was fine to eat Genetically Modified foods (better identified as “FrankenFoods”), along comes a study which makes it clear that you are eating this make believe non-food at your own peril and, worse yet, you are feeding it to your kids at their peril as well. It is important to note that Codex Alimentarius, which sets standards for the international trade of food, permits genetically modified foods and makes no effort to limit, control or eliminate them. In fact, the US has been trying for years to prevent the labeling of GM foods and seed in international trade to emulate its domestic policy which prohibits any label indication that foods contain GM ingredients, as 75-80% of all foods sold in the US do.

Now it appears that the increasingly prevalent nightmare of a disease called “Morgellon’s Disease” may be a result of GM crops and food.

Morgellon’s Disease was first described when a woman’s 3 year old son developed rashes and intensely itchy sores which produced weird multicolor fibers emerging from his skin. She put up a website about the condition in 2001 and named it “Morgellons Disease” after a 17th century report of a similar affliction.

As it always does, the allopathic community of Western, drug-oriented physicians labeled sufferers as delusional. As a physician, I have a great deal of difficulty explaining how a delusion can produce colored fibers which protrude from the skin and continue to grow in a petri dish. Be that as it may, the multicolored fibers produced by the “delusion” have been analyzed and we now know that Morgellon’s Disease is no longer rare, nor is it mysterious any longer. A study of the fibers shows that they contain DNA from both a fungus and a bacterium which are used in the commercial preparation of genetically modified foods and non-food crops (such as cotton). The fibers themselves are primarily cellulose, which the human body cannot breakdown or manufacture. So GM technology apparently has, like Professor Frankenstein, found a way to animate the non living. These fibers twist and twine, grow and divide. In short, living beneath the skin of people, they form parasitic lesions out of what should be non-living material but which, through the horror of genetic modification, has taken on the characteristics of a living thing. [...]
